Preparing Assignments of Copyright Ownership

United States Copyright Office (USCO) records the assignment and transfer of copyright ownership. Transfer of ownership of the copyright to another person or organization by the copyright holder and owner is called copyright assignment. This assignment takes effect with the execution of an Assignment Agreement between the Assignor and the Assignee and the recordation of this Assignment into the Copyright Register USA for its recordation.

The copyright holder or owner is normally the person who created the work. He can assign his work to anyone. In an Assignment the copyright owner becomes the Assignor whereas the person in whose favour the assignment is made is called the Assignee.
