Design Patent Assignment Recordal USPTO

Assignment is the transfer of ownership of the patent and the recordal of the change of owner’s name in USPTO database. The owner of the design patent can sell or transfer the design asset through assignment. The execution of Assignment Contract formalize the sale. USPTO will keep the assignment as a part of record if the Assignment Contract is recorded with the office.

The inventor or the owner of the Design Patent is Assignor and the person in whose favour the assignment is made is called the Assignee. The document through which this assignment is formalized is called the Assignment Deed, Agreement or Contract and its recordation in the USPTO database is called the Assignment Recordal.
